Abstract

This text reflects on the role of interdisciplinarity in knowledge construction within a globalized world where knowledge is often fragmented and subordinated to political, administrative, and financial interests. From this standpoint, it advocates for a collaborative approach that restores the sense of “we,” echoing Marina Garcés’ philosophical proposal to transform impotence into commitment and suspicion into trust. This reflection is framed within the historical trajectory of Sarance, the academic journal of the Instituto Otavaleño de Antropología (IOA), whose first issue, published in 1975, marked a milestone in the institutionalization of anthropological research in Ecuador. Throughout its editorial history, Sarance has served as a space for disseminating critical thought and fostering dialogue across the social sciences and humanities. Its forty-four published volumes demonstrate the IOA’s enduring commitment to scientific production and intercultural exchange. The current issue reaffirms the journal’s mission as a platform for collective reflection, aiming to rethink local and regional realities through a complementary, open, and transformative perspective that links knowledge and action to build a more dignified and shared humanity.
