Abstract

This article examines the development of textile work in Peguche, an emblematic parish in the Sierra Norte of Ecuador. It highlights the transition from traditional technologies to mechanized processes to meet the demand of the global market, without losing the link with the indigenous cultural heritage. It analyzes the historical evolution of the craft, from the colonial era with the workshops to the present day, and how the community has adapted its techniques and products. The study highlights the balance between the preservation of ancestral techniques and innovation in textile production, consolidating Peguche as a center of international prestige in the textile industry.
