Abstract

This issue of the journal brings together research across various disciplines, with a particular focus on the Otavalo region, addressing topics such as traditional medicine and the yachac, traditional hat-making, the presence of llamas and alpacas in Ecuadorian prehistory, and testamentary and mortuary records from the 16th and 17th centuries. Additionally, it includes studies of national and international scope that examine economic, identity, and cultural issues, such as Ecuador’s intricate paths of capital, the political construction of identity, the dance and ethnomusicological practices of human head reducers among the Untsuri Shuar and Achuar, pre-Hispanic technology and its relationship to rural development, artisans’ participation in human resource programs in Brazil, and techniques for photographing lithic artifacts. Collectively, these articles reflect the thematic and methodological diversity of contemporary anthropological thought, linking local research with broader-scale issues.
