Abstract

This article examines the role of sacred trees, springs, and hills in the worldview of the northern Andes of Ecuador. Based on documentary and ethnological sources, the article explores the ancestral practices and beliefs that persist in present-day indigenous and peasant communities. It analyzes how hills and snow-capped mountains are venerated and anthropomorphized, reflecting human relations in their worship. The study also addresses the relevance of the milk tree (Euphorbia Latazii) and associated ritual practices. Through this approach, the integration of the sacred in daily life and the persistence of these traditions today are highlighted.
