Abstract

Scientific research has had very little development in Latin America. Without disregarding the monumental effort represented by the work carried out in recent decades by the new generation of intellectuals devoted especially to the human sciences, it must be acknowledged that we are still far from meeting our research needs.

Subjected to a situation of economic and cultural dependence on various metropolises, Latin American countries lack the necessary conditions to effectively carry out the complex tasks of science: not only are they far from possessing the financial and technological resources that are absolutely indispensable, but they also suffer from a severe educational deficit that prevents young people from receiving an adequate education capable of producing future researchers.
