Culture and reproductive health. The case of the urban inganas

Abstract

This article explores beliefs and practices related to reproductive health among urban Inga indigenous women in Cali, Colombia. Based on an ethnographic approach, the study addresses cultural perceptions of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum among migrant women from Santiago, Putumayo. The interactions between traditional practices and state health services are examined, highlighting the specific needs of this ethnic group. The article also analyses how changes in their urban environment influence their reproductive practices and how they maintain their cultural identity through community solidarity.
