Peer Review Policy

General Guidelines

Before manuscripts are sent to peer reviewers, the publishing institution conducts a preliminary assessment to verify that submissions are original and have not been previously published. For this purpose, the plagiarism-detection software Turnitin is used. Submissions are also checked for compliance with the stylistic and bibliographic requirements established in the Publication Guidelines.

Revista Sarance has a pool of reviewers specializing in various fields relevant to the journal's scope. However, before accepting an invitation to review a manuscript, reviewers must consider the following criteria:

1. Knowledge and expertise: Reviewers must possess expertise in the subject matter addressed by the manuscript.

2. Time availability: Reviewers must be able to complete their assessments within the timeframes established in the editorial policies of Revista Sarance (submission of the review report within a maximum of 30 days).

3. Conflicts of interest: Reviewers must decline the invitation if a conflict of interest exists, including situations in which they can identify the author, have a close academic or personal relationship with the author, belong to the same institution, research group, network, or project, have co-authored publications with the author, or maintain any other relationship that could compromise their impartiality.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Selected reviewers must conduct their assessments using the journal's peer review form. The entire review process is managed through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform to preserve the anonymity of both reviewers and authors. By accepting an invitation to review a manuscript, reviewers agree to:

Selection of Reviewers

Review Recommendations

Based on the criteria established in the peer review form, reviewers must recommend one of the following decisions:

In the event of disagreement between the peer reviewers, the manuscript will be referred to a third reviewer before a final decision regarding its acceptance or rejection is made.

Acceptance for Publication

Following peer review, the manuscript is submitted to the Editorial Board, which makes the final decision to accept or reject it based on the reviewers' reports and the editorial criteria of Revista Sarance. Authors will be notified once the final decision has been made.

Exceptions

Certain types of submissions, such as book reviews and essays, are exempt from external peer review. These contributions are evaluated by the Editorial Board in accordance with the ethical and editorial guidelines of Revista Sarance.

Articles submitted by authors who have been directly invited to contribute to thematic dossiers are also exempt from external peer review. These invited authors are recognized scholars and specialists in the subjects addressed by the thematic dossiers of Revista Sarance. They are selected in advance by the Editorial Board through a curatorial process that assesses their academic track records and the relevance of their work to contemporary research.

Contributions from invited authors are evaluated by the Editorial Board and, upon acceptance, are forwarded to the production stage.
