Abstract

This article explores the evolution of cinema in Ecuador, from its first screenings to the emergence of its own film industry. Through an analysis of the country's film culture, it addresses how Ecuador has historically been a consumer of foreign audiovisual products, mainly from the United States and Europe, and how this trend has begun to change in recent years. Sebastián Cordero's film "Ratas, ratones y rateros" stands out as a milestone that drives national production, transforming the perception of Ecuador in the international arena and laying the foundations for a nascent film industry with its own identity.
