Abstract

The 49th International Congress of Americanists, scheduled for July 1997 in Quito, marks a significant milestone for Ecuador, which was chosen as the host after decades of participation in previous events. This congress, in accordance with the Permanent Regulations of the Centennial Congress (1976), will bring together more than 2,000 international specialists in 140 symposia covering diverse disciplines such as anthropology, archaeology, history and literature. It will be notable for its focus on the inclusion of indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities in academic dialogue. In addition, a wide range of cultural and academic activities are planned, including a book fair and exhibitions of Ecuadorian crafts, underscoring Ecuador's role in the global scientific and cultural panorama.
