Abstract

This article explores ceramic analysis from an archaeological perspective, highlighting the evolution and significance of ceramics from the Formative Period in Ecuador to the Regional Development Period. Ceramics are examined as an integral reflection of ancient society, as their production and design are deeply influenced by the cultural, social, and technological aspects of the time. Ceramic analysis focuses on dimensions such as paste, construction, shape, finish, decoration, and firing, each providing crucial information about manufacturing methods and cultural changes over time. Through a modal approach, patterns and variations are identified that allow for a better understanding of the production processes and functions of ceramic objects. This study also considers the impact of the psychological aspect of the artisan and how the pieces reflect ideological elements and worldviews of ancient societies. Ceramics, being both functional and artistic, offer a valuable window to understand the complexities of pre-Hispanic cultures.
