Abstract

This article addresses the cultural dimension of development, a crucial issue for the life of any community and fundamental in guiding the destiny of a country. Culture, understood as the sum of a society's past and present creations, determines the identity and collective perception of its members. In contrast to the traditional conception of development, centered on economic growth, it is argued that development should focus on human beings and their sociocultural needs. The importance of integrating culture into development policies is highlighted to ensure progress that respects and strengthens the cultural identity of each people. The concept of endogenous development, based on a society's own culture and values, is presented as a viable alternative. This holistic approach promotes comprehensive development that considers both the material and spiritual aspects of social life.
