Abstract
There is, without a doubt, a deep crisis in Otavalo's textile crafts, the most important productive and commercial occupation of the indigenous people of the region. The trade has pre-Hispanic antecedents, it was maintained during the colonial period with the installation of obrajes; both in what today constitutes the urban area of the cantonal head, as in its surroundings; It has been an activity that generates countless jobs, it has become the basis of progress and well-being among those who, especially in recent years, have dedicated themselves, more than to production, to the trade of articles of great demand within and outside of Ecuador.
